I created this studio with the hope that it would be a place where people come together, celebrate one another, and fill it with joy and life.
Recently, the studio hosted a Sweet 16 celebration that did exactly that.
When the birthday girl’s mom first reached out and asked if I would be interested in creating a special experience for her daughter and her closest friends, I immediately said yes. It felt like such a natural fit for the studio and for everything I had hoped this space could become.
The birthday girl arrived with her five closest friends, and from the moment they walked through the door, the studio was filled with laughter.

Amy, my go-to makeup artist and one of the best in the business, spent time with each of the girls, helping them feel confident while still looking like themselves. Watching them get ready together was part of the fun. There was music, conversation, excitement, and that feeling that something special was about to happen.
Throughout the afternoon, the girls changed outfits four times and moved through several different photo sets and backgrounds around the studio. We had balloons, decorations, snacks, drinks, and plenty of room for them to simply enjoy being together.

What stayed with me most was the friendship between these young women.

They were kind to one another. They cheered each other on. They celebrated one another. They laughed constantly.
As a photographer, I always hope to create beautiful images, but what I loved most about this Sweet 16 session was watching these friendships unfold naturally in front of the camera.
Of course, we created many of the portraits the birthday girl had envisioned. We brought her ideas to life and created the images she was excited about. But some of my favorite photographs happened in between the poses.

A burst of laughter.
Friends gathering together without being asked.
A look that only longtime friends understand.
Those are the moments that stay with me.
We even ended the celebration with a surprise that brought another round of laughter, excitement, and some unforgettable photographs.

After everyone left, I stayed behind for a while.
Balloons were scattered around the studio. Confetti covered the floor. Empty soda cans sat on the tables waiting to be cleaned up.
The room was quiet again, but it still felt alive.
I sat there taking it all in before heading home. I replayed the day in my mind and thought about everything that had happened in that space over the previous few hours.
What I didn’t expect was how alive I felt.
I had so much fun documenting this celebration. It was an honor to be trusted with these moments and to spend the afternoon with such an incredible group of young women.
The photographs we created are now part of a beautiful album that the birthday girl and her family will have forever.
When she opens it years from now, I hope she sees more than the outfits, the decorations, or the photographs themselves. I hope she sees the friendships, the laughter, and how it felt to be surrounded by people who loved her.
And that is exactly the kind of experience I hoped this studio would make possible.
Seeing the space filled with friendship, laughter, celebration, and connection reminded me why I created it in the first place.
I love photography, but what I love even more is what happens around it. The conversations. The relationships. The moments people share when they feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
This Sweet 16 was a beautiful reminder of that.

If there’s something you’re dreaming of celebrating, whether it’s a birthday, a milestone, a gathering of friends, or something entirely your own, I’d love for this space to be part of your story too.
